Learn English the natural way and be immersed in the language.

Professional online English Teacher | Native Speaker | From South Africa | Living in South Africa

This project would not have been possible without the help of Bernard and Dinah, my beautiful friend, who helped me make this video. I will be forever grateful. Thank you both for enriching my life in ways that I could never have imagined.

Take the road to South Africa and the short road to English fluency.

Be locals and stay with us in the seaside city of Port Elizabeth.

Learn English

Course on offer

We offer a boutique immersion homestay experience to anybody who wants to learn English in a natural way. We are native English speakers and we love sharing knowledge and learning new things. Live with us in our home and enjoy great English conversations while taking part in our everyday lives.

Your 10 days with us will be an English learning experience from the moment we meet you at the airport. (The airport is a 5 minute drive from our home which overlooks the beach.)

We come from different parts of South Africa which makes us interesting. We have slightly different accents. Our roots are English and I can trace my family history back to 1820, when the first English Settlers from Britain sailed into Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  South Africa is a diverse country and you will hear lots of different accents and languages. Our official business and communication language is English. We speak British English. South Africa has 11 official languages.

Active Learning

As part of your learning experience each activity will include a lesson. Booking a restaurant table, writing a review or making a purchase. In English of course! This will help you to build your confidence. If you are feeling shy please don’t worry. We will guide you and support you. It will be fun. I am a qualified TEFL teacher and I currently teach English to English Second Language learners online.

Welcome to our city

What you can expect

We are located in Port Elizabeth (or Qgeberha, as it is now known) on the East Coast of South Africa between Cape Town and Durban. Port Elizabeth has been renamed as Qgeberha, which is the Xhosa name of the local Baakens river. Our area is known as the Sunshine Coast as we enjoy the most sunshine hours in South Africa per year. The sun provides opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities such as quad biking, surfing, deep sea fishing, kite surfing, sky diving and hiking. You can take a boat trip exploring beautiful islands. Rich coral reefs offer magnificent diving and snorkeling opportunities. Horse riding along our golden beaches is perfect for those wanting to get in touch with the African bush.

We have a sub-tropical climate and in winter our temperatures seldom reach less than 8 degrees celsius and in summer they can reach more than 30 degrees celsius. Extreme heat and cold are rare in Port Elizabeth. Chris says that all the months ending in “er” are the windiest months in our city. September, October, November and December. February is the hottest month of the year.

Transport in and around Port Elizabeth

Uber (taxi service) is available in Port Elizabeth. If you have not booked an activity for the morning we have plenty of amenities on our doorstep. All the most popular beaches are within easy walking distance from our home. Our beachfront has modern facilities with shops and restaurants as well as the Boardwalk Entertainment Complex

Orientation and availability

As soon as possible after your arrival we will take you for an orientation drive along our beachfront. We will point out places of interest and make sure that you are aware of your surroundings.

I will be available to help you, or spend time with you, from 7am to 8am and from 1pm to 5pm. Chris and I work in the mornings and most mornings you will have free time to explore. The afternoon is the best time for us to enjoy some activities together. It’s a great learning experience for all of us. From 5pm to 7pm we will be preparing dinner and your participation will be welcome. Both Chris and I will be available to spend time with you in the evenings  from 7pm to 9pm.

Once you have made your booking and paid your deposit I will provide you with your very own google calendar. This will allow us to make changes to your itinerary as and when we need to. You can also share your calendar with your family and friends so that they know what you are doing and where you are going.

Cape St Francis – Small fishing village on the East Coast

Cape St Francis is located 120km west of Port Elizabeth and we will leave on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday afternoon. Cape St Francis is well known for it’s clean beaches and excellent surfing and water activities. Our accommodation borders the beach and is a unique paradise for learning English. There are plenty of amenities on our doorstep, including a spa, restaurant and coffee shop. On top of all of this, Cape St Francis has 5 nature reserves with indigenous plants and wildlife. We would love to show you the nearby towns, Port St Francis, St Francis Bay and Jeffery’s Bay. Enjoy a meal cooked on open fires, on a white sandy beach, 50 meters from the shore.

We guarantee a relaxed atmosphere where the opportunity to learn English is fun and you can build your confidence in a non judgmental environment. Weekend experiences are flexible in terms of your arrival and departure dates and in terms of how you might feel after a long flight.

Beach Walks at Kings Beach

I’m an early riser and an early morning walk on the beach is the best way to start the day. Enjoy a stroll or a brisk walk while enjoying the beautiful scenery our beachfront has to offer. What an awesome opportunity for an English conversation. At low tide we can take you to harvest oysters on the rocks.

A variety of white sandy beaches on our doorstep!

Besides Kings Beach across the road from our home you can also access Humewood Beach, Denville Beach, Hobie Beach and Pollock (Pipe) Beach all within an hours walk of our home. Our promenade is excellent for cycling and running. Our beaches are all blue flag beaches.

At our and your discretion we would love to share some of our favourite restaurants with you. Here are a few that Chris and I really like.

La Kouzina

Greek, Light meals, Mediterranean, Pizzas, Sushi and Tapas are served from La Kouzina’s menu. Chris and I have a special place in our hearts for the barman, Keith, and we would love to introduce you to him.

Ground Floor

Chris loves their eggs Benedict breakfast and I have to agree it is delicious! Ground Floor has a cafe vibe and we generally sit outside on the sidewalk. Much like in Europe. This restaurant is located in Richmond Hill, a very trendy area.

Something Good Roadhouse

They serve the best milkshakes in town. When we drive you down the “wildside” we will stop for a milkshake along the way. My treat.

Indulge is the best location for a coffee break with a view while spending time on our beachfront. You can enjoy a stimulating English conversation while drinking a delicious coffee and eating a huge slice of cake while watching the waves break on the shore.

Another sunny day in Africa learning English
